Pleasant Afternoon Marks Croquet Opening

The opening of the Levin Croquet Club's season took place reeently in fine weather, when there was a good attendance of members, visitors . and friends. Members of the Otaki and Manakau Clubs were among the visitors*, wfio were welcomed by the president, Mrs. W. Bull. Before calling on the Mayor, Mr. H. B, Burdekin, to open the lawns,

the president extended the thanks of the club to those persons who had helped with the dressing of the lawns and the marking of the greens. Congratulations were ' extended by Mr. . Burdekin on the appearapce of the lawns and surroundings. He wished all present a happy and enjoy able season. After apologising for the absence of the Mayoress, Mrs. Burdekin, he played the first*- ball through the hoop and declared the season open. A life member of the club, Mrs. W. Lett, presented a pair of gold brooches for competition. They will be ehallenge brooches for doubles play,- and,- will be --known-

as the Lett Brooches. On behalf ■ of the cluh, Mrs. Bull thanked Mrs. . Lett for her generous gift, and ths Mayor asked for this to be cardei' by acclamationi Afternoon tea was served by tli© club members and then competitions were held, the results being as follows: — Croquet in tha raini Mrs. A.
