Jolly Carnival Dance
Arranged by the Levin pupils of the Irene Oliver School of Dans»ing, the Regent Ballroom was a gay scene on Saturday night when a joilly carnival dance was held. Pupils and friends from a wide area were present and the function attracted some 200 couples. Guests of honour were the Mayoress, Mrs. H. B. Burdekin and Mrs. K. Z. Lynch, and during the evening Mrs. Burdekin was called j upon to judge the most attractive- | ]y dressed girl, her choice being Miss S. Pierpoint of Feilding. Pupils- demonstrated the progress they have made during the year and, interspersed with dances, were various items, those taking part being Misses D. and L. Millard and R. Collis,- tap trio; Misses F. Sayles, M. McKenzie, J. Wallis and E. Sayles, Can Can ballet; Misses Z. Williams, J. Benfell, L. Millard, R. Collis, E. Williams and S. Lincoln, tap group. The latest Latin Ameriean dance, Paso Dcble, -.was cleverly demonstrated by Misses F. Sayles, M. McKenzie and E. Sayles, and Messrs. M. Fox, B. McKenzie and R. Arnott.' ,The intricate footwork and graceful movements of this number were freely applar(&ed. Something new to Levin was the appearanee of Miss Joy Wallis, who thrilled the onlookers with a skating dance. She executed various figures and gained much applause. Mr. Reg. Cheesman proved a popular and efficient M.C. and midnight brought to a close a most enjoyable function. The waltzing competition was won by Mr. Atkinson • and Mrs. Greener, while the foxtrot competition was awarded to Mr. an'd Mrs. Batten. . Pupils are now busily preparing for ' their end of the year recital, which will be held in the Regent Theatre . on Wednesday, 'December 8.
