CUP PLAY REVIEWED

No major surprises were recorded last weekend ' in the opening i round of the Karakamea Cup, although several players on middie handicaps found themselves struggling to give strokes to the improvers cn the near limit mark. Perhaps the best win was that of B. Antcliff, a comparative newjcomer to the local club. He played seven below his handicap to r«gister tv/o wins in play for both the Karakamea and D.C.L. Cup matches. The burden of having to play two separate opponents apparently r'ested lightly on his shoulders and, judging from the results obtained, further success in handicap and championship play seems assured providing he retains present form. Championship Games n Next Saturday should see a most interesting day's golf, when the third and final qualifying round of the championships will be played. _ A number of members, for vari- 1 qpis reasons, have cnly handed m one card from the first two rounds, ! and the onus is o'n these players to

pas • in an extra score to give them the ehance of qualifying. In view of the fact that probably one of' the largest fields of competi'.ors yet seen this season will start in this very . decisive third round, • all players are asked to observe their drawn positions and starnng places. There is ample space for play, but nothwithstanding this the congestion has occurred over the last two weekends in particulan, If all .players a'dhere to their starting times this . world be avoided. Competitors canalso assist by speeding up their walklng time between shots on the fairv/ays.; Topical Notes Dn not drop your unwanted rubbish all over the lmks. Be wise; hav; local course pride. T..;at od'd divot: When you play a g nd or bad shot, replace. that divc t because it is valuable. Some day there may be a match in which mem'oers do not have placing. • Jixt for practice, try piaying out ■of a divot mark. The od'ds are 100 to one against a good shot.
