How Big Jewellery Thefts Were Discovered
Received Friday, 7.55 p.m. SYDNEY, July 16. By a strange coixrcidence two diamond rings diseovered on the floors of two shops on consecutive days have led to the diseovery that members of a weii-tramea gang of thieves have reiieved two prdihinent Sydney jewellers of rings valued at £1750. The ttrst ring was notice'd hy a customer in Fitt Street in a shop of Saimders Froprietary Limited. Quick investigation by staff members revealed that two pads of rings vaiued at £750 were missing. It is not known v/hen the theft was committed as the pads were apparently abstracted when the attention of the salesmen had been diverted by other members of the gang. Late the following evening a' caretaker in the George Street shop of Angus and Coote found another ring which he handed to an employee. The employee then fouhd' that a pad containing 40 rings was missing from tlie window. It is thonght that the robberies were carried dnt within a few hours of each other.
