Why Was Film Inquiry Started?
WELLINGTON, July 15. The time witliin which the • Oonstitutioual Reform Couuuittee and Film Inquiry Committee- appointed last year, are to report to the House of Repre'sentatives, was fxteuded by the House today* to September .'50. The comniit tees were originally required to report within 28 davs of the opening of the present session of Parliament. Asked by the_Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Holland, as to the origin of , the request for the inquiry into the film iiidustrv, the Minister of Industries and Coniiuorce, Mr. Nordmeyer, said that members who had sat oii the (souimittee and the public who had read the evideucve, would be convineed there vvere serious disadvantages through tlie creation of monopolies in the jndustry. It wat also obvious that the.ee were other matters that should be. investigated. There was no doubt thnt by the tine the remaining evidence liatl been taken and the committee had deliberated, a really worthwhjle report would be presented. He thought it uulikelv that the committee would be able to submit a linal report by Sep tember 30 and it was quite possible a further extension might, have to bc sought.
