A recent resolution passgd by the Levin Ratepayers' ' Assoeiation, which recommended that the Levin Borough Council eo-opera&e 'With the "Horowhenua ■ County Council, in regard to the hire of machinery was received by the eouncii last night. The assoeiation also forwarded a recommendation that the couneil Institute a machinery replaeement fund. "They are apparently a fsw years behind in their information," commented Cr. R. A. Frederikson. It was pointed out by the town clerk, Mr. H. L. Jenkins, that the council had for quite a few years been paying into a machinery replaeement fund, and that the council reguiarly received accounts from the County Council for the hire of machinery. He had been urging machinery for years," said the Deputy Mayor, Cr. D. J. Gardiner. "I think that if . the assoeiation sent a responsible member along to the borough office to make enquirles before sending in such reeommendations they wquld save much waste of paper," he added. Positions becoming vacant on the borough staff were advertised, said the town clerk, Mr. H. L. Jenkins, when a further letter from the assoeiation was diseu'ssed. The letter was forwarded with a copy of a resolution passed by the associa^ tion, recommending that all positions failing vacant should be advertised. The Deputy Mayor, said that it was gvident that the association's members did not read the loeal paper, ' In some cases, however, where. the gasworKs or borough overseer might require a man for a job of. that nature, and had a man on the spot willing to do the work, it wouid not be practicable to keep that man waiting tiil the position was advertised as they might lose him.
