JN AJr LJM\, Alay 14. Slips on tlie railway at tlie beaeli 1 oo j ) 20 niiles south of Gisborne marooned a huiidred passengers in tlie railcar which left Napier this morning. The Railway Department at Napier anuounced this afternoon that it was endeavouring to arrange for the passengers ' transfer by road transport to Gisborne It is doubtful whether any raikars will run from Napier to Wairoa t omo rrow. The express whieli left Napier this evening is going onlv as far as Wairoa ibeeause of slips on tlie Wairoa-Gisborne ( line. The Napier-Wairoa road is elosed b.v a heavy slip in the Matahoura Gorge ; while the road is also blocked three miles south of Wairoa. The Napier Taupo route was open at a latc liour this afternoon although the road aeross the phiins is eutting up badly. Conditions are worsening due to the eontinuing heavy rain.- Wairoa is virtually isolated due to the roads north to Gisborne also being elosed.
