Oil Burning Locomotives
Engineers of the Railways Department have compfeted ' the COnVefsion Of.35 locomotives from coal to .oii-burners. Till more Oil fuel is available, no more engines will be converted, though those now in use are giviilg satisfactory serviee. ,The decision to ceajq Jjonversion work at the end ^of this rnonth was announced by the Miliister of . -Railways, Mr. Semple, early this year. At one stage the department intended to convert more than '70 engines, but difficulty in obtaming sufficient fuel for such a number has led to a restriction of the programme. to about half. *
