Miss Perris Johnson, of Hamilton, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Banfield, Princes Street, Levin, The new director of the Army Educatioh and Welfare Service, Major T. R. Hawthorn, took up his duties at Army Headquarters today. Captain S. H. Johnson, is the new deputy-director of the A.E.W.S. i'n Northern Military District, and. Captain S. L. Hatch takes up the: position in Southern District 011 January 16. A well known Auckland musician and for many years choirmaster at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Auckland, Mr. C. Moor Karoly, died suddenly in Dunedin last week. A Hungarian by birth, Mr. Moor Karoly. studied music in Budapest and' later in Vienna. He returned to Budapest and became organist at the famous St, S'tepheh's Cathedral. He served in the First World War and then came to New Zealand. Mr. Moor Karoly became a conductor of the choir at St. Patrick's Cathedr-ai, Auckland, in 1925„ and with the exception of a twoyear break in 1928-29, had held the positidn evef since. He took a ieading part in the preparation of the music for the New Zealand Catholic Centennial Festival in !938. .
