DUALITY A GOOD BUY
J)UALITY had repaid in place money the small sum which Mr. W. Marchant paid for him, and when he led the field home in the Trial Hurdles at Riccarton there was real cause for rejoicing, for the Inflation gelding was expected to run well, and the fine price came as a surprise. Racing in Mr. J. J. Hayward's colours he won several flat races at Awapuni, Masterton and Waverley, his principal successes being in the Waverley Cup and in the Masterton Handicap (in which he easily beat a large field, including Langue d'Or, Glenfalloch, Longsword, Patu-Ra, Broiefield, Catterick Bridge and Hulabaloo). Nine days later he won the Waverley Cup, while Langue d'Or went on to run third in the New Zealand Cup won by Golden Souvenir. Duality, now in K. R. Webster's successful team at Marton, showed an aptitude for hurdling, so it was only a matter of condition and a suitable track for an outright win, which may not be his last.
