MEMORIAL HALL PROJECT
QUEEN CARNIVAL LAPSES A decision to allow the proposed queen carnival to lapse pending further discussion, and in view of the fact that insufficient candidates had been proposed, was made at the monthly meeting of the Memorial Hall campaign committee of the Levin branch of the R.S.A. this week. In place of the queen carnival it is planned to hold a carnival on the Levin Park Domain at an early date in the New Year. It was decided by the committee that„ the Mayor be approached and asked if he could arrange for the Gqvernor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, to pay his official visit to Levin durirg the early New Year, so that the R.S.A. could hold the carnival on the same day. A sub-committee was set up to make arrangements for a cabaret dance towards the end of the mc-nth. This dance will be something novel for Levin, explained Dr-. S. J. Thompson, who proposed the scheme! A number of tables would be placed in the hall and the tables would be sold, as was the case with the city cabarets. A decision was made to form a committee of farmer-members to organise, ut the appropriate time, a stock drive which will enlist help and donations of stock from all farmer§ in the district.
